Bringing farm-to-table to your home table.
Hey all! Welcome to the new home of The Farmer in the Kitchen!
If we haven’t met yet, my name is Laura, and together with my husband and kids, we run a small farm/homestead in the hills of northeast Tennessee where we focus on heritage livestock, raw dairy, and fresh, simple, home cooking.
Our goal with The Farmer in the Kitchen is to make farm-to-table cooking an easier and more accessible part of your family’s mealtime traditions. We hope you’ll love it too!
Who are we?
Sean and I began exploring the homesteading world when we were still just a family of 4, stationed in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, and trying to feed our growing family as best we could on an enlisted sailor’s salary. What started as a series of experiments in between deployments soon became a way of life and an obsession with reconnecting our family (and our tastebuds) with wholesome, locally sourced food.
After 20 years of active duty service, Sean retired and we brought our family and our homestead to the hills of northeast Tennessee. I attended classes at Escoffier School of Culinary Arts during our first couple of years here, and decided that my heart lies in farm-to-table cooking and helping others fall in love with locally sourced goodness just like we did all those years ago.
Sean is the brains and the bulk of the brawn behind our farm; he plans and manages all of our pastures, the majority of our herds, equipment, and property maintenance. He’s also my best recipe tester and sounding board, and without him, there wouldn’t be a farmer in this kitchen.
